Review of Sonatine (1993) by Private U — 12 Dec 2008
Kitano's incorporationo of the cultural differences in attitude between gangster culture portrayed in the classic hollywood sense versus his portrayal of a highly "zen" disposition in his characters is brilliant.
. sadly T. Kitano's later films lacked the subtle intelligence of Sonatine, and concentrated on simply a Yakuza mentality that is not at all original.
