Review of Son of the Bride (2001) by John B — 02 Nov 2008
I never get tired of this movie! I have seen it many times and I am always touched by the feelings that Nino (the father) has for his wife and the tenderness and love with which he treats her, even though she clearly can't remember anything he says or does. The relationship of son, in his father's shadow, mother with alzheimers, and father who wants to have a church wedding (because his wife always wanted one but never had it), is deeply moving, tragic, uplifting, often very funny and very real. Although the circumstances may be unusual and comic, the backdrop is real life and something almost all viewers will be able to relate to in some way.
Ricardo Darin does a fantastic job acting this role. When his old long lost friend shows up the there are some very funny scenes. And the family dynamic covering 3 generations, the winding down of a family business and a middle age heart attack is sure to captivate. See this one, you will love it!
