Review of Son of Rambow (2007) by Jane H — 27 Jun 2009
Family choice and I really thought it would not be for me. How wrong could I be? A lovely movie exploring the unlikely friendship of two very different boys. One whose mother had abandoned him and his brother to live with her new man in Spain. The elder brother treated him as his slave. The other boy brought up in a close religious community with no material possessions and not allowed to watch tv. The boys meet when one boy is outside the classroom waiting for the educational tv programme to finish and the other is sent out from class for bad behaviour. By seeing part of the video of Rambo a mutual love is born for the film and the boys make their own movie hence the film title.
Poignant, well acted and crafted.
