Review of Son of Rambow (2007) by Masorad ( — 01 Sep 2009
Set in a fatherless universe, the film presents a prepubescent odd couple who bond thanks to their mutual love of Stallone's 1982 revisionist "First Blood." The faux-amateur sections reminded me of my own Super-8 forays into filmmaking, and they're well done with a deft touch, but too much in the film as a whole feels paper-doll thin, subtextless, plainly silly (the French Didier segments) and bordering on the mawkish.
Feelgood is empty in this underwhelming exercise.
