Review of Son of Rambow (2007) by Hindénbörg E — 22 May 2010
4 out of 5 - Charming story of two boys who form the unlikeliest of friendships. One comes from a Puritan family and has never been allowed to see TV or listen to music; the other is the school's troublemaker, who comes from a wealthy, but uncaring family.
What binds them together? Their love for First Blood. The plot centers around their efforts to create a sequel (see title) with a VHS camera. There is lots of fun to be had here, this is the type of film that captures childhood innocence and imagination well (specially through animated effects and charming illustrations that adorns the children's books), but doesn't shy away from drama either.
There is no sugarcoating on the dilemmas the boys face at home and the traumas they carry. Recommended, specially for those who grew up in the 80s.
