Review of Son of Rambow (2007) by James-Masaki R — 29 Aug 2010
Hammer and Tongs made the best childrens' movie in recent memory with "Son Of Rambow", a movie filled with the imagination and wonder of children in the early 1980s. Whether you've seen "First Blood" or not, it's still going to be awesome. And somehow, after repeated viewings, it really grows and gets better. There are not enough good kids' movies like this one, I'd say "The Monster Squad" is similar in tone too, with the naturalistic acting and talking.
Will Proudfoot's family is part of a religious sect that does not allow television, films, or other technology as part of their lifestyle. When Will befriends a troublemaker at school, Lee Carter, who wants to make his own short film based on action and stuntwork. After Will accidentally watches the first movie in his life, Sylvester Stallone in "First Blood", his wild imagination gets bigger, and the two decide to make a film based on Rambo's son rescuing him. But with a lot of roadblocks along the way.
