Review of Son of God (2014) by Gerson K — 03 Mar 2014
The bible said that Jesus was not known for his looks (Isaiah 53:2 ESV "...he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him"), yet we are forced to see Jesus as a melodramatic surfer model type with a perfect RP accent (queens English).
There's no humanity to this movie character and he displays little or no genuine emotion. It seems this movie has a watered down version for the McDonalds crowd where nothing should offend. For example, where is the whip Jesus used to drive out the money changers in the temple? "And He found in the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated.
And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the moneychangers, and overturned their tables." (John 2:14-15) Is the true Jesus just too offensive for modern day sensibilities? This Jesus is just too bland for me, but then I haven't eaten at McDonalds for at least ten years either.
