Review of Son of God (2014) by Joseph F — 03 Mar 2014
I had not seen the TV miniseries, but after watching the trailer for this movie, my husband and I were actually excited to see it. It seemed that perhaps Jesus' message of love and righteousness juxtaposed against the hypocrisy and materialism of his contemporaries would come across more strongly than in other films which focus simply on dramatizing events.
Alas, this was not so. There was nothing compelling or fresh about the story, and the one attempt at developing the character of a Pharisee made no sense as he seemed to be a genuinely good man rather than one of a "brood of vipers" as he should have been in order to merit Jesus' treatment of him.
On top of that, the dialogue and sound effects were incredibly cheesy, so after enduring it for about 45 minutes, we decided to leave while we could still get a refund on our tickets.
