Oh Hollywood, Don't you have any respect for Jesus Christ. "Son of God" takes the saga of Christ and turns it into a endless, cheesy affair. The main problem with "Son of God" is the actor who plays Jesus, a Portuguese actor named Diogo Morgado is too handsome to play the son of god. Willem Dafoe and Jim Caviezel have played the popular religious figure before in "The Last Temptation of Christ" and "The Passion of the Christ". Dafoe and Caviezel were convincing in the role because they we're plain looking, Diogo Morgado is so the wrong guy to play him. He just looks like a fashion model.
Based on the History Channel miniseries "The Bible" created by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, "Son of God" explores Jesus Christ through his birth, his teachings, his crucifixion and his resurrection. This film I think does a poor job of telling this story. Christians and Evangelicals may disagree, but director Christopher Spencer's film is not as strong as the previous "Christ" movies made by Martin Scorsese and Mel Gibson and it doesn't take any chances.
"Son of God" mostly takes scenes from "The Bible" miniseries and it takes new scenes that weren't featured in the miniseries. My advice would be to see the miniseries instead. I have nothing against Jesus or religion, there could have been a good movie with "Son of God" but as it is, this is a well-intentioned bore.
