Review of Son of God (2014) by Lee H — 23 Apr 2014
This movie did not get saved until the Last Supper. Until then it dragged on with a serene Jesus and droning high priest Caiaphas, with Pilate actually providing the having the most interesting and compelling performance.
However, from the Last Supper forward the film gets gripping. The sufferings of Jesus were portrayed superbly.
This film doesn't concern itself with strict adherence to the details and chronology presented in the gospels. It sometimes offers interesting interpretations, especially regarding where Jesus' teachings and events may have coincided. At other times, its artistry seems to take away from the actual story. Case in point is the resurrection of Lazarus where the Bible records Jesus shouting in a loud voice, "Jesus come forth!" and this film has him walking in the tomb and providing another kiss (watch for kisses throughout this film) in yet another soft-spoken command.
This is not the greatest telling of the greatest story ever told but it does suffice.
