Review of Son of Frankenstein (1939) by Mark A — 05 May 2009
Rowland V. Lee's big budget follow-up to the James Whale Frankenstein films. Filled with warped expressionism, a chilling score and a slew of great performances it still ranks among the best of the franchise.
Rathbone chews the scenery as the title chacter while Karloff brings the Monster back to his roots. It's Lugosi and Atwill who steal the show however, in, award worthy turns as Ygor the broken-necked blacksmith and Krogh the one-armed inspector.
