Review of Son of Frankenstein (1939) by Chris S — 11 Dec 2010
It's hard to top Bride, the previous entry in the Frankenstein series, for sheer madcap energy, so perhaps it's wise that Son of Frankenstein plays more like a morbidly brewing murder mystery than a monster movie.
Rathbone has great charisma as the now-interchangeable, obligatory mad scientist, and Boris Karloff still maintains his iconic presence, but this feels like the first time The Monster becomes a prop in his own film.
