Review of Son of a Gun (2014) by Bill F — 02 Jan 2015
This movie caught me entirely off-guard. I enjoyed this action thriller throughout, but it is the last 5 minutes that left me stunned as the credits scrolled. I did not expect the turn it would take. The writer cleverly packaged a transcendent message for all the audience to realize that Love, or the lover, never fails.
It is not the fighter who in the end prevails, but the one who believes in Love. Incredible! Moreover, as if the director wanted to add a period at the end of his ethereal sentence, the last scene declares that Love is a victorious light that even reaches the prisoner's heart.
And one day that light will set him free and lift him to new heights. Wow, wow, wow! Thats all I can say. The Sol Seppy soundtrack song, "Enter One" sums up the tacit message beautifully.
