Review of Somewhere in Time (1980) by Dan S — 07 Mar 2009
I desperately want to give it more than a 3, because Sane Seymour and Christopher Reeve are amazing. And they could have been really amazing together if the script had allowed it in this film. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
There were precisely two moments that the actors had together that were convincingly real. The film prior to these moments was infuriatingly slow and dialogue-deprived, and the film after these moments had a Titanic-esque ending that was considerably less effective.
However, Jane was heavenly and stunning, and there's no need to elaborate on Reeve's acting, because it is always far past wonderful. But the writer is apparently only witty or heartfelt for very rare, brief moments.
