Review of Somewhere (2010) by Colonel C — 10 May 2011
A toss up of a project for Sofia Coppola who uses this film as a semi autobiographical film about her time traveling with her dad from hotel to hotel during his career in the 70's. Technically superb, reflective and quiet, a lot of the shots seem to speak volumes of the isolation and journey for belonging that Doriff's character seems to be searching for.
Cinematography isgreat especially with the driving shots from behind, incrediously wide and full. Outside of that the film seems to be too quiet for its own good to wash over its message of two losts souls finding each other to heal each other as in Lost In Translation.
