Review of Somewhere (2010) by Paul K — 19 May 2011
I never really know what to make of Sofia Coppola's films. They are all very quiet, simple films filled with personal moments and symbollism. I did love Lost in Translation though and I'm pretty confident that will be her best friend ever.
This film is almost a companion piece with Lost in Translation as it's plot and setting is very similar, except with the main actor connecting with his daughter rather than a female. Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning do good roles in their roles.
The film is mostly set in Hollywood and it's cool for me to see as I was there a few months ago and even saw the hotel where the movie was filmed at. Overall this film is very slow, quiet, and simple, but also touching and interesting.
