Review of Somewhere (2010) by Jiana W — 29 Jul 2011
The only reason (in my humble opinion) that Sofia Coppola gets attention is because of her pops. There's nothing great about her films, if you ask me. This story is kind of cute because it is from a unique perspective. Usually we see troubled father-son stories but instead we get a party-all-the-time actor whose 11-year-old daughter shows up on his doorstep one morning. Their scenes together are sweet. She loves her father to death, even though she seems to know (for the most part) what kind of guy he is. Johnny begins to rethink his life after spending a few days hanging out with his kid. At least the transformation of his character is believable.
It's sweet, but nothing particularly special about it. I was, however, delighted by the presence of Jackass's perpetually nude cast member, Chris Pontius. I imagine that a lot of his scenes were ad-libbed, haha.
