Review of Somewhere (2010) by Cody V — 24 Mar 2012
Well done. Sophia Coppola seems to be carving a niche with films written for specific actors tailor made to fit them like a glove. I'm not a Dorff fan, but he slides right into the character of Johnny Marco, maybe a little too easily.
I have a soft spot for "inside Hollywood" films, and "Somewhere" delivers the portrayal of the emptiness that can be an actors life, where in between jobs they drift anchorless in the soft fog of fame and easy living.
The only sour note; Chris Pontius hamming it up as the roomate.
"Somewhere" makes it clear what actors mean when they say "I had to get the fuck out of Hollywood and be around real people for a change".
