Review of Somewhere (2010) by Patryk C — 20 Jul 2012
Cassavetes would be proud. Sofia Coppola has made a movie where every second is totally honest. I loved this movie. It follows a celebrity around in his lethargic life with real and funny moments. Along come his little daughter who wakes him up to something meaningful.
In the end, he's able to walk away from the superficiality of his empty lifestyle. It reminds me of La Dolce Vita. But in this case, our hero actually makes an effort to change. The performances are beautifully tender and the scenes are touching and spot on.
Mainstream audiences might be bored. Personally, this is the kind of filmmaking I'd be totally proud of. Bravo Sofia - you've done it again!
