Most -- if not all -- of Somewhere's intrigue is this: How will Sofia Coppola, uncommonly talented in cinematic artfulness, explore its very specific cliches in an advanced way that only a filmmaker of her caliber can? Depressingly, she doesn't; Somewhere is a faux-contemplative bore, an extreme contradiction to any of her previous work.
