Review of Something Wild (1986) by E F — 05 Jun 2010
Melanie Griffith's character, Audrey, picks up a random uptight rich guy named Charles Driggs (Jeff Daniels)in a NY restaurant. What starts as a wild sex and drinking escapade turns into a what is supposed to be a deeper connection.
About maybe 3/4 into the film, it is revealed that Audrey has a psychotic abusive husband, Ray, played by Ray Liotta. He is the most entertaining character in the movie. Ray ends up, through a series of events, trying to kill Charles, and of course, instead he gets killed by Charles.
Charles and Audrey end up together in the end. The movie is watchable, though very disorganized and unfocused. It is sometimes trying to be an offbeat comedy, fails to be a real love story, and falls short of being a tension-driven drama.
