Review of Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983) by Michael T — 07 Nov 2008
This adaptation of Ray Bradbury's nostalgic dark fantasy novel bombed at the box office back in 1983, but I always enjoyed it. Again, sometimes Jason Robards leaves me cold as an actor, but in this film I found myself thoroughly enjoying his performance as a thoroughly decent older father of a young boy who stands up the Jonathan Pryce's satanic carnival ringmaster.
Some of the FX are cheasy and they were going for a PG rating so there isn't a lot of gore to satisfy 1980s horror movie fans, but who cares. Pam Grier is cast as one of the carnival performers, "the most beautiful woman in the world.
" Now thats not much of a stretch of the imagination.
