Review of Something the Lord Made (2004) by Michael S — 20 Jun 2007
A wonderful depiction of the true story of a doctor who takes in a black man as a lab assistant in the 1930's, and their endeavors to change medical practices.
Alan Rickman and Mos Def were phenominal in this film, they really made a great effort to capture the era, and did so successfully.
In my opinion, the true beauty of this film is that is isn't just a medical story with race relations playing a bit part or vice versa, it melds the two together and makes one story of them both. Admittedly, having a true story to work from makes this easier, but it seems as if there was a lot off attention to that detail among others in this film.
All in all, 5 stars and deservedly so.
