Review of Something New (2006) by Brandi F — 19 Jun 2007
Surprisingly interesting, and never really dull, except at the beginning of the movie Something New is actually a good movie. Sanaa Lathan is hot and Simon Baker as her white romantic interest is also hot, and they both have chemistry between them.
Normally, I'm not a fan of romantic movies, but the courtship between these two is actually intriguing, maybe because we still don't know if she'll fall for him. The dialogue is sharp and the music choice is smart.
There are scenes where Eastern music plays, then there is an African dance and also a club scene with dancehall music. This is obviously trying to show the different cultures involved. The movie's message in that love goes beyond the skin colour is a little too preachy, but that's what is expected.
It's a nice little movie.
