Review of Something Borrowed (2011) by Lisa B — 06 Oct 2011
Wow! I'm surprised at all of the negative comments here. I just recently watched this film and I went into it thinking it wasn't going to be great due to the critics reviews but now I've finally learned my lesson. Never, never, never trust critics reviews. This movie had me crying & laughing so much and the ending totally took me by surprise. I've never read the book nor have I heard anything positive about this film so I'm guessing that's why I was and still am shocked as to why so many people didn't like it. I've read a lot about "where did their money come from", first of all, who cares?? It's a fictional movie, not based on real events like everything else on tv today. Also, Dex and Rachel were lawyers so there's some of it.
Even though it did have its slow moments, it was awesome in my opinion. The ending was unpredictable in so many ways & I've seen my fair share of movies, all kinds of movies actually and now this one is at the top of my list. Kate Hudsons performance was great, especially when she found out about Rachel & Dax in the apartment. It was just one big twist where everyone was right and then wrong and finally, right again. Two friends since childhood who had grown up and apart in so many ways. Rachel made the decision to stop being a doormat and take a chance. Darcy made the decision to sleep with Marcus, who may or may not have just recently had a thing with Rachel as far as Darcy is concerned but that doesn't stop her from cheating on Dex and sleeping with Marcus. So really, Rachel wasn't completely the only liar here. I'm just pointing out a few main points of the film because according to some other user reviews, they totally missed it. If Rachel and Darcy had just met do you think they would be friends? Of course not, they would've hated each other. People change, and I think that's one of the things that this film is trying to point out.
