Review of Something Borrowed (2011) by Heather H — 26 Feb 2012
So, I like romcoms as much as the next hopeless romantic girl, but unfortunately, this one was a disappointment. All of these characters are IDIOTS. Darcy is controlling, an alcoholic, masked up by having a big heart.
Rachel is weak, lets herself get pushed around, masked up by being loyal. Dex is a coward who has no clue what he wants, masked up by being hot. And poor Ethan (John Krasinski's character) who is stuck in the middle and forced to listen to Rachel rant about the entire situation.
Yet he NEVER says how he really feels-he's a people pleaser. Honestly, John Krasinski's character was the only one I actually liked. Krasinski himself delivers a really funny performance, some of his best work since The Office.
The other three were good, but there is only so much you can do with a conviluted story such as this one. There are so many lies, betrayals, and cover-ups, I had a hard time keeping up with what the character's actual motives were.
I'm not going to lie, there were some moments that were genuinely funny and very romcomish. If that's even a word. But in the end, they are all idiots.
