Romantic comedies are a dime a dozen and for the most part nowadays are all quite similar; this movie is no exception. Directed by Luke Greenfield, the film doesnâ(TM)t come close to his previous romantic comedy, The Girl Next Door(2004). This film was harder to watch not only because there wasnâ(TM)t a lot of Eliza Cuthbertâ(TM)s skin being shown on screen, but because there werenâ(TM)t enough times where I actually connected with any other characters. Although there were some good parts in the movie, as a whole it was very cheesy and quite predictable.

Something Borrowed begins with the âsurpriseâ? 30th birthday party for Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin) that was thrown by her lifetime friend, Darcy (Kate Hudson). The history that Rachel and Darcy share makes their friendship almost unbreakable. This movie defies most âlove triangleâ? movies and is closer to a âbucket, with a lot of love thrown inâ? movie. With unknown feelings and a wedding to prepare for this film has a lot of side plots that are easy to follow but somewhat unneeded. Flashbacks help set up the movie going back to the time when Rachel introduces Darcy to Dex (Colin Egglesfield), her study partner in law school, and then jumps back to the few months before their wedding. As this movie shows, much can happen in just a few months.

Itâ(TM)s unfortunate to see a romantic comedy be such a bad movie. These movies are supposed to leave you a good feeling and, if you are single, a feeling like, âthat could happen to me.â? The mix between banal dialogue and less then great acting made this feature hard to watch; but even with the lousy nature of the movie there was one thing that kept be matching. This was Ethan (John Krasinski). He was the only down to earth character and the lines that were given to him made the movie everything it was. Without Ethan this movie would have been not worth my time and money. He truly was the reason to not walk out after the first thirty minutes. This film had quite a few comedic moments that elicited a quote, unquote laugh out loud moment. Good Cinematography made this movie easier to watch and aesthetically pleasing.

All in all I would say for men donâ(TM)t see it by yourself or with your buddies, rather see it with your girlfriend/wife. They will enjoy the fact that you took them to a chick flick and will like you even more for toughing this girly movie out. Something Borrowed could have been a lot better but it wasnâ(TM)t the worst movie iâ(TM) ever seen.
