Review of Something Borrowed (2011) by Bess W — 17 Jun 2013
I don't know why, but the marketing for this movie snagged me. For some reason, it actually looked like it might be a cut above the normal romantic comedy. While it takes a different approach than most, the result is the same.
Ginnifer Goodwin (Take Me Home Tonight) gives an earnest performance to counterbalance Kate Hudson's (The Killer Inside Me) whacky character. And while John Krasinski ("The Office") is amiable, Colin Egglesfield (L!fe Happens) seems like he's just there to be eye candy - not really that surprising given he's got a background in modeling.
The story is kind of all over the place, and it never pulls together in any memorable way. There are a few funny moments, but it's more awkward than memorable - while still ending up exactly the way you expect it will.
