Review of Some Like It Hot (1959) by Alexandre L — 02 Jul 2011
I avoided this movie like the plague for a very long time. The good ol' telling of a man dressing up as a woman for his own benefit, a movie theme that does more often than not equal one-joke streched over two hours. See Tootsie. See Mrs. Doubtfire.
As a huge Billy Wilder fan, I had to give it a shot anyway, and I'm glad I did. I couldn't be more wrong about Some Like It Hot. The brilliance does not only lie into funny characters and situations, it is also present in Wilder's witty and clever dialogue. Without it, I can assure you this wouldn't get its all-time classic status.
