Review of Some Like It Hot (1939) by Christopher N — 05 Apr 2013
Marilyn is sexy, gorgeous, funny and wonderful and Jack Lemmon is also very funny, but for the rest, yecch! This time through I was struck how ugly the manipulative relations between the sexes are portrayed.
It just ain't funny anymore. The "sparkling" Billy Wilder dialogue is full of lame punch-lines, altho his story structure is slick. What else? Well, I liked the B&W photography, I should have noticed who the D.
P. was. But all in all, I think it needs retirement from the classics list.
