Review of Some Like It Hot (1939) by Jerrod G — 06 Sep 2010
SUGAR: "Bring your cocktail shaker.".
DAPHNE/JERRY: "No, you'll spoil my surprise!".
"Some Like it Hot" is, without a doubt, one of the funnest and dirtiest movies to come out of the 1950s, and I had a great time enjoying it! Filled with (mostly) subtle bodily humor that, when understood, is just as dirty as today's perverted teen comedies, this 1959 comedy is a stand-out film that is so well structured that you'd have to be rather ignorant not to get the message being presented. Additionally, it's a stellar representation of the iconic image and voice of Marilyn Monroe. Overall, I found nothing about this movie that I didn't enjoy. It was humorous, sexy, and effective in telling the audience its message on gender interaction, which was cleverly summed up in the final piece of (somewhat sexist) dialogue:
DAPHNE/JERRY: "I'm a man!".
OSGOOD: "Well, nobody's perfect.".
5/5 stars. Well worth watching.
