I can see in some respects why this film is so beloved. It's a great story, great, iconic actors, well written and directed, and certainly a unique experience at the time it was released. It's also, however, a victim of aging. The jokes haven't aged well, resulting in amusing, but not necessarily funny bits and situations. There are pacing problems, and moments cheesiness stretched to limits.

But for all her drama and nonsense when the cameras were off, Marilyn has never been better. Lemmon is Lemmon (which is to say, fantastic) and even that egocentric Tony Curtis does a great job. It's just not a movie that can be called timeless. I know film buffs the world over would disagree though.
