Review of Some Like It Hot (1939) by Matt C — 04 Oct 2013
Considering the era this was made, I'm surprised that it WAS made! Raunchy, sharp and damned funny this cross-dressing comedy sees Joe and Jerry on the run from gangsters dressed as women in an all-female jazz orchestra, only to both fall madly in love with Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe) who almost literally scorches the screen in every scene she's in.
Joe E Brian nearly steals the film in some scenes as the playboy Osgood Fielding III, but everyone shines in this superb comedy. though either this film came out with an X certificate or the double entendres passed by the censors.
(And Tony Curtis looks unnervingly attractive in his early scenes as Josephine). One of those films you need to see before you die.
