Review of Some Kind of Wonderful (1987) by Emily R — 22 May 2011
Watching this I am so glad that they replaced Eric Stoltz with Michael J. Fox when casting Back to the Future; he is NOT a leading man. That said Marty McFly's mum, Lea Thompson, is really good, bringing an extra unforeseen sympathetic dimension to a seemingly well-known stereotype.
However this is Mary Stuart Masterson's film playing a the unrequited love card to its full potential, while somehow maintaining some edge; it's a hard balance to master. The plot isn't up to much and despite Masterson's best effort this is still not on a par with Hughes' other films, apart from the overrated Pretty in Pink.
