Review of Some Kind of Wonderful (1987) by Steve S — 30 Jun 2011
***1/2 (out of four).
John Hughes takes a more dramatic turn with this gender variation of his 1986 film "Pretty In Pink". The result is thoughtful and well acted teen drama where the characters branch out of their stereotypical roles.
Eric Stoltz plays an artistic and sensitive high school student who falls for the popular Amanda Jones, played by Lea Thompson. But his tomboy best friend (Mary Stuart Masterson). only has eyes for him.
Hughes gives depth to the fairly routine story as as usual provides some great music with the soundtrack. Masterson is a standout in her role.
