Review of Solomon Kane (2009) by Sandy R — 04 Sep 2010
Admirable attempt at a sword and sorcery romp. Solomon Kane is entertaining but the thinnest of plots means little in the way of story or character developement. The action sequences are aplenty but everything is extremely predictable and cliched.
Purefoy excels in the role of Kane and the sharp visuals and sets add quite a spectacular and gothic edge. The CGI heavy climax was disappointing and felt like something ripped from a video game rather than the pages of a comic book.
Worth a look as the casting imperfections and poor acting do not hinder the overall enjoyment and style of the movie.
