Review of Solomon Kane (2009) by Albert T — 03 Apr 2011
This is one of those things that looked better on paper than in real life: Mercenary turned Puritan Solomon Kane fights against demons ... something about freeing his soul from the devil's grasp. Okay, 17th century demon hunter, this sounds cool, and hey, it's got Max von Sydow (and if anyone knows how to exorcise a demon ... ) and Pete Postlewaithe.
In reality, after an awesome (if confusing, why exactly does the devil have a hold on his soul?) beginning, the middle slowed down considerably while it it took us from point A to B to C .. and until we finally get to the end, and what an anti-climactic end it was too.
James Purefoy was better as Mark Antony in "Rome" and Max von Sydow and Pete Postlewaithe ... really? Are you guys broke? Anyway, if you're a fan of the TV series "Supernatural" then consider this a prequel once you've seen what happens when a demon possesses someone, but that little interesting tidbit aside, there isn't much to see in this movie.
