Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Jeremy K — 31 May 2018
I hated Last Jedi but Solo begins to re-establish the feel of Star Wars.
Solo was written by Lawrence Kasdan, who famously made Empire Strikes Back amazing and worked on RotJ and Force Awakens. It shows. Whereas Last Jedi threw out everything that came before it, Solo treats the Star Wars identity with reverence and consistency while also adding to it with its own flair. It's exactly what you'd want from a non-series movie in the Star Wars universe. Solo moves along at a great pace and actually makes sense. It rarely drags, and you see the makings of the people these characters later become.
The ending is great and also leaves a lot of room for more movies to start answering some really important question left open here and begin fleshing out the new Disney version of the Star Wars universe.
Still, it sucks about Last Jedi.
