Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Brian K — 02 Jun 2018

What's the best way to be surprised and excited about a movie? Go into it with little to no expectations and be totally surprised, that's what I did with Solo: A Star Wars Story. I was more than impressed with the film and it honestly has me really excited about the new few movies, none of which are confirmed, but opens the door to them.

First, a little history of the movie, they fired the original director, hired a new one, Ron Howard, then proceeded to reshoot about 60-70% of the movie from the reports that I have read, I really feel like Ron Howard saved this film.

This movie genuinely had me excited all the way through the film and not wanting it to end. I really thought that Alden Ehrenreich did an amazing job at capturing the spirit of Han Solo and amending the character to blend nicely between Harrison Ford and himself.

I really gotta say, Chewbacca is my MVP this movie, he is a total badass and is great to see how the dynamic and inseparable duo came to be. It's unfortunate that this film isn't getting the success as Rogue One got, but due to the troubled history of the film, I can remotely understand why, but nonetheless, I would have thought it would have done better.

When Disney announced that they were buying LucasFIlm, I was hesitant on the idea of it, because Star Wars has always been this franchise that is almost sacred in the fact that there's so much history behind it, with the books, the tv shows, the comics, and the culture, and very, very little cinematic history to tell these stories which is why these characters are so methodical in a sense because we don't really know how they came to be, but, with Rogue One and now Solo, I am really starting to like all of these spin offs that give us history to these characters that my dad, and now myself grew up on.

If they do continue with these origin/spinoff films, I really hope that the give Obi-Wan his own movie, because this movie definitely sets one up.
