Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Nik E — 03 Jun 2018

Ron Howard brings with him his trademark unremarkable competence, delivering a film that succeeds as little more than a pleasant diversion of a heist film. Still, it's a relief to finally see a Star Wars flick that isn't a beat-for-beat remake (ahem, Force Awakens) has characters with agency (yo, Rogue One) and doesn't waste the viewers time with idiotic, unnecessary subplots (looking at you, Last Jedi).

I suspect those who have loved the previous couple films will find the small stakes and predictable writing a major disappointment, but if--like myself--you feel as if Disney's swinging for the fences has seen them corkscrew themselves into the dirt, this solid base hit may appeal.
