Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Irene M — 09 Nov 2018

I was born in 1973, the original Star Wars was released in 1977. Star Wars blew my mind (at least 20 times since then). When I watch it with my children, it brings very fond memories. Solo doesn't really do that. I don't feel Ron Howard or Alden Ehrenreich captures Solos rebelliousness, cockiness, and energy. Nor do I feel Donald Glover captures what Billie Dee Williams brought to Lando. These are all integral parts of a movie called Solo. On the flip side, Chewy was amazing, the story line was fast paced and fun. I'm glad Ron decided not to introduce some cheesey character like Jar Jar or Watto. The movie is gritty but not cocky. It's headstrong but not rebellious. It is fast paced but not energetic.

I've I were to compare, Harrison Ford (Han Solo) is a 1955 Chevy with a 455 big block. Loud, maybe a bit obnoxious. But it will go fast, may blow up, and chances are you will not end up in the destination you thought. But you will have the time if your life. Alden playing Solo is more like Montu the roller coaster. It will go fast, there will be twists and turns. Ultimately it is on rails and you know your ultimate destination. You may ride it a few times but ultimately want there next best thing.
