Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Philip L — 01 Jun 2018
Despite the troubled shoot and change of directors, Solo is entertaining enough but not that wow. Ehrenreich is a fairly decent Han Solo but ultimately is just an impression which takes some getting used to.
Emilia Clarke's character is on the other hand annoying and actually unnecessary to the plot. As Solo's love interest you immediately think he never mentioned this before. Her character moves from A to Z for no apparent reason other than coincidence which is always a non starter.
The real romance is the friendship between Han and Chewie which is really the film's saving grace as is Paul Bettany's villain whose name escapes me. Lando's okay and Woody Harrelson is just Woody Harrelson.
As for the ending well that was rather annoying but to say why goes into spoiler territory - as a side note why is it all genre films these days have to have a 'shock' moment - it's almost expected now.
