A movie like this is as good as its cast. The premise has been used before plenty of times enough, that it has to have something else to it in order for it to be worthwhile. What this movie has is a very credible cast.

This is about a man who at some point in his life makes a series of shifts from a respectable and honest family man to a conniving and deceptive solitary man. He still communicates with his daughter and ex-wife, treats them with love.

But, you still get the feeling that they are being used to satisfy some need of his. He sleeps with women of varying age. And has participated in at least on shady business practice. He's a character we shouldn't like, but engages you enough to make you want to see him in a likeable light.

The whole movie he takes a series of hits to his lifestyle. After each one, I kept hoping that this is the moment that he changes for the better and that the rest of the film would be about him trying to right past wrongs.

More often than not, I was disappointed with him. Also, it ended appropriately, allowing people to discuss whether or not this man could actually redeem himself. It wasn't the movie I went in to watch (mostly because I only watched it because of its cast), it was better.
