Review of Solitary Man (2009) by Jim W — 12 Sep 2010
Ben (Michael Douglas) a former car salesman becomes a player, when he finds out he has a heart condition. He sleeps with younger women and can't even take his girlfriends daughter (Imogen Poots) to college to help her get in...without sleeping with her too. While there he meets a shy young student played by Jesse Eisenberg.
Ben uses Jesse as a reason to be invited to college parties and hang with younger people while also helping Jesse be more confident around women. While Ben's flings are getting in the way of his relationship with his daughter (Jenna Fischer) and his grandchild. Since he can't even make it to his grandchild's birthday party on time.
Douglas has gotten laid in movies more than any other actor I can think of lol. So him playing a womanizer is hardly a twist. But Solitary Man does at least have him at the top of his game again. Hell, he has a good chance in getting nominated for Wall Street 2 or even his performance here. He gives one of the years best performances with Solitary Man, but like I said, Douglas playing a womanizer is hardly a twist.
