Review of Solitary Man (2009) by Matt D — 11 Oct 2010
Story about self-centered, poor little rich guy who treats women like they are only means to his satisfaction and doesn't appreciate what he has. And this movie almost makes you feel sorry for the guy. Almost. The movie tried telling a story about growing old, about being forgotten, about loneliness. Tried. It doesn't actually go beyond the surface of things and it never lets you in.
I've seen stories like this countless times before and this adds nothing new. Solid and good performances all around (Michael Douglas has played roles like this before so it's no big deal for him), direction is...okay, and there's not much else to praise. Typical mediocre masterpiece-wannabe. Worth a watch just to say you've seen it.
