Review of Solitary Man (2009) by Ray P — 07 Jan 2011
The best thing about this smart Indie film is that, if Michael Douglas' film legacy should end this year, I will remember this terrific performance rather than the embarassingly awful, "Wall Street 2".
Douglas, in a very autobiographical performance, is diagnosed with a serious health issue at the start of the film. Things then jump 6 years forward and his character is now single, washed up after losing his car dealership business and obsessed with picking up much younger women. His self-destructive behavior is most evident when he sleeps with the 18-year-old daughter of a woman he is seeing while he is taking her on a visit to his Alma Mater College in Boston.
Great supporting performances by all --- but every character is merely circulating around the ball-of-fire performance by Douglas that is one of his finest to date. Hope this is not the last!
