Review of Soldiers of Fortune (2012) by The D — 16 Jul 2012
This is one of those pleasant sleeper surprise movies that upon first glance should be awful but then you read the cast. Slater, Bean, Rhames, Cromwell, Monaghan & Meaney all appear & not just in brief glimpses but all with prominent roles. So you think these guys must be having a laugh & I'm sure filming this they did but there's just a silly eighties Cannon action movie feeling to it that it makes for good viewing.
It's only really the premise and some poor support that holds the film back. "Wealthy Warriors" pay big prices to be dropped into real life missions but of couse on this mission things don't go to plan. Hard up Slater leads his team in to provide arms for a small resistence unit on an unclaimed island. Here he runs into the man responsible for his dishonourable ary discharge.(Meaney). When the teams "bodyguards' are taken out it's left to them to make their own escape.
It's silly & some of the action is quite poorly put together. The films strength lies within the rapport between the millionaires as they banter & compete with each other.
Just a good not too violent actioner that sneaks under the radar.
