Review of Soldier's Girl (2003) by Jacob — 24 Nov 2008
As unbearably tragic it is, it still features one of the most authentic and true romances I've ever seen. Troy Garity is strong as Barry Winchell, realistically portraying the vulnerability, confusion, and sadness of his character.
However, it is Lee Pace as Calpernia Addams, the confident, apprehensive, yet undeniably in love transgendered female performer. He really conquers every scene he is in, and it's impossible to not be enthralled by his acting.
Unfortunately, the story the film is about is a true one, so this is ultimately a very heartbreaking film to sit through, but that doesn't take away from the beautiful performances and true chemistry between the two leads.
