Review of Soldier Blue (1970) by Nigel M — 06 Mar 2008
I was a child when this film first came out and was obviously not allowed to see it, instead just listened to my parentstalking about the horrific rape and murder scene. I caught it today and can understand how the subject matter shocked at the time but it looks so terribly dated now with laughable tomato ketchup blood.
Strauss I thought initially was a joke but soon realised it was part and parcel of the very naive character. What was stand out though was the performance of Bergen, undoubtedly beautiful in her time but really got stuck into the part.
And I didn't even recognise Pleasance as Isaac Cumber with the middle initial 'Q' given to him by his father!
