Review of Solaris (2002) by Chris B — 18 Jul 2008
Tedious (even more so than the original) but interesting and cerebral sci fi film. It's very sterile in it's visuals and really well shot so it's always nice to look at, especially the lingering shots of space and the space craft's exterior shots.
However, I found that to be one of the only good aspects of it. It is well acted and the story is interesting for the most part but it's too short to get all of the details across without being confusing (the original is 160 minutes, this is a mere 99) and some of the conversations are redundant to the point that it all feels very repetitive rather than covering new ground.
It's still worth watching for the visuals but the original works far better in getting the story across and has far more intriguing characters.
